While average household items are generally covered under a typical homeowner’s policy, these policies also specify maximum coverage amounts or ‘caps’. To ensure coverage on expensive jewelry, electronics or antique furniture, you want to deal with them specifically.

There are two ways to do this. First is to increase the coverage cap on your policy. Another way is to look into purchasing ‘scheduled coverage’ which is a separate policy attached to your homeowner’s policy that lists each item and its value so you are properly covered if something is lost, damaged or stolen.
